Today we had a wonderful time helping out at Elonwabeni Children's Home in Mitchell's Plain. Many of the children are HIV positive, or have parents with HIV/AIDS who are having a difficult time caring for them. There are 21 children at Elonwabeni, between the ages of 4 and 16, and while the staff members were busy with an important workshop, we cooked spaghetti and baked cookies for lunch (with help from several of the children), and played games and did art projects with other children. After lunch, one of the volunteers from Germany played music on his computer, and the kids and the Truman students had fun dancing together. The kids also performed some dances, and the 16 year old at Elonwabeni sang for us - she had a beautiful voice. The kids became attached very quickly to the Truman students, and it was hard to say good bye!
